Manson Place previously called the Alexandre Estate is the area located in South Kensington. In nineteenth century the land was used for farming, supplying the city with fruit and vegetables. After the Great Exhibition, a large part of this area was bought by The Commissioners of the Exhibition and transformed into a home for institutions dedicated to the arts and sciences.
